Functions of Upazila Parishad

1. To make five year and different term development plan.2. To implement the programs of various government departments handed over to the council and to supervise and coordinate the activities of those departments. Construction, repair and maintenance of inter-union connecting roads. Adoption and implementation of small scale irrigation projects in the Upazila Parishad as per the directions of the government to ensure optimal use of surface water resources. Ensuring public health, nutrition and family planning services. Improving sanitation and drainage system and adopting potable drinking water supply system. (A) Provide incentives and support for the expansion of education at the upazila level. (B) Supervise the activities of the concerned institutions and provide assistance to them in order to improve the quality of secondary education and madrasa education activities. . To undertake activities for the establishment and development of cottage and small scale industries. 9. To provide assistance to the cooperative societies and non-governmental voluntary organizations and to coordinate their work. To provide and implement support for women, children, social welfare and youth, sports and cultural activities. To take up and implement activities for the development of agriculture, cattle, fisheries and forest resources. Discuss the activities of the police department including the improvement of law and order situation in the upazila and send regular reports to the higher authorities. In order to create self-employment and alleviate poverty, the government has to provide necessary assistance in adopting and implementing programs on its own initiative and in implementing related government programs. Coordinating and inspecting the development activities of the Union Parishad and giving necessary assistance. Taking other preventive measures including creating public opinion against the organization of crimes like violence against women and children. Citizen Services: Upazila Parishad is basically the office of Upazila Executive Officer and other offices such as Upazila Education Office, Upazila Agriculture Office, Local Government Engineering Department, Upazila Social Services Department, Upazila Cooperative Department, Upazila Youth Development Office, Upazila Rural Development Office, Upazila Project Implementation Office, Upazila Matsya. Offices, Upazila Women's Affairs Department etc. provide almost all kinds of civic services through offices.
